Latias EX (112/116)

Latias EX comes from the Plasma Freeze expansion from the Black & White era, released on May 8, 2013. This card is significant as it was the first full art card of Latias released in the Pokemon Trading Card Game, following the inclusion of full art cards that were introduced in the Black & White expansion. Additionally, it was the first Pokémon-EX card of Latias, a mechanic that was introduced in the Next Destinies expansion, which was a rework of the original ex cards introduced in EX Ruby & Sapphire. 

Latias EX saw little to no playability in the standard format when it was first introduced, with the only notable inclusion in a deck being Jordan Palmer’s 2014 World Championship deck, which placed 32nd that year. However, Latias EX did appear in several Sableye/Garbodor decks between 2016-2018 in the expanded format. Latias EX primarily functioned as a stall card with its ability “Bright Down”, as the high energy cost for a low damage attack was not competitively viable.
