This card is significant as it is a highly sought after ultra rare that is often unofficially referred to as an “alternate art”. Additionally, Lugia is a fan favourite from Pokémon Silver, contributing to the popularity of the card.

Lugia V saw minor usage in the standard format that it was introduced in, almost exclusively in Lugia/Archeops decks which were focused on using Archeops’s ability to accelerate special energy onto Lugia VSTAR. Lugia V saw the most usage during multiple regionals across March 2025, fading out of competitive popularity shortly after. One notable regional placement that Lugia V received was in Andi Cheung’s Lugia/Archeops deck that placed 3rd in the Brisbane Regional on March 29, 2025.
