Race For The Moon
Race for the Moon was a three-issue science fiction anthology series published by Harvey Publications. Cover-dated from March to November 1958, the title emerged during the Space Race era following the launch of Sputnik 1 in late 1957. The publication reflected contemporary public fascination with lunar exploration, rocketry, and scientific advancements, blending speculative technological fiction with conventional comic storytelling.
The series is documented for its assembly of high-profile comic book illustrators. While the initial issue was illustrated primarily by artist Bob Powell, the subsequent issues featured pencil artwork by Jack Kirby in collaboration with inkers Al Williamson and Reed Crandall. Notable stories in the run include "Island in the Sky" and "The Space Titans," which showcased early iterations of Kirby's kinetic graphic style applied to hard science fiction concepts.
Race for the Moon holds archival interest within American comic book history due to its low print run and the brief window of its publication. Its production immediately preceded Jack Kirby's late-1950s work on Challengers of the Unknown for DC Comics and his subsequent co-creation of the Marvel Universe in the early 1960s. Single bid cancellations are at the auctioneer's discretion. For maximum bids:
You can increase your maximum bid amount
Decreases require auctioneer approval
Changes won't be permitted if the lot closes within 24 hours or has significant activity

You'll be notified of winning bids in three ways:

Highlighted message on auction pages when logged in

After the auction closes, you'll receive a detailed invoice including shipping costs. Payment options include:
