Blondie Comics Monthly
The comic book series Blondie Comics Monthly originated as a newsprint spinoff of Chic Young’s hugely popular syndicated newspaper strip Blondie. The title initially launched in 1947 under publisher David McKay before transferring to Harvey Publications in March 1950 with issue #16, where it adopted the Blondie Comics Monthly branding and a regular release schedule. While the stories retained the creative byline of Chic Young, the interior penciling and inking were executed primarily by studio assistants, most notably Paul Fung Jr. and Jim Raymond.
Throughout its 148-issue run at Harvey Publications, the series provided extended multi-page domestic sitcom narratives that expanded upon the short daily gag structure of the original newspaper strip. The stories centered on the bumbling suburban exploits of Dagwood Bumstead, his wife Blondie, their children Alexander and Cookie, and Dagwood’s short-tempered boss, Mr. Dithers. During the early 1950s, Harvey expanded the line into a broader publishing franchise, introducing companion books such as Chic Young's Dagwood Comics and Daisy and Her Pups to maximize newsprint distribution.
