Neville Clarke

Neville Clarke was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1959 and immigrated to Canada in 1974. He graduated with Honours from the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1983 and participated in OCAD's off-campus program in Florence, Italy from 1983-1984.

Clarke has exhibited extensively in both solo and group exhibitions over more than fifteen years. His solo exhibitions include "Towards a Meaningful Expression," organized jointly by the Art Gallery of Peel in Brampton and Thames Art Gallery in Chatham, and "Threshold," organized by the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, MacLaren Art Centre in Barrie, and the Frederick Horsman Varley Art Gallery of Markham. Additional solo exhibitions have been held at the Kathleen Gormley Gallery in Markham, D & E Lake Ltd. Fine Arts in Toronto, and Eman Fine Art in Hamilton.

He has participated in group exhibitions at major institutions including the McMichael Canadian Art Collection in Kleinburg, the Art Gallery of Mississauga, A-Space Gallery in Toronto, the Triangle Gallery in Calgary, and the Nova Scotia Archives in Halifax. Clarke has also participated in international exhibitions in Japan, Mexico, Seoul Korea, and the United States.

Clarke has received numerous awards for his work, including twice receiving the A.J. Casson Medal and Honour Award, twice receiving the Charles Comfort Medal, the Roman Corporation Award, and twice receiving the David B. Milne Award. He received the 2004 African Canadian Achievement Award from ACADU and in 2006 the Curatorial Writing Award for first Publication, "Tribute: The Art of African Canadian" from the Ontario Association of Art Galleries. He has also received grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation and the Ontario Arts Council.
