Norman Knott

Norman Knott, also known as White Bear, was an Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) artist born at Curve Lake Reserve, north of Peterborough, Ontario. He spent his entire life in this community with his wife and three children, and died there in 2003.

Knott worked primarily in acrylic, though he also used oils, watercolour, gouache, and colour silkscreen. His imagery drew on nature, symbolic motifs, and spiritual representations of wildlife. His work was acquired by collectors including Queen Elizabeth II, Pierre Trudeau, Lee Trevino, and Johnny Cash. It is held in the Royal Collection of the British Royal Family and the Trent University Art Collection.
