Pnina Granirer

Pnina Granirer (born 1935) is a Romanian-born Canadian painter, printmaker, and writer who has been based in Vancouver, British Columbia, since 1965. Her work draws from a diverse range of personal and cultural experiences, including her childhood in Romania during the Second World War, her time in Israel, and her life in Canada. She studied at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem. Granirer's artistic style is figurative and expressionist, often exploring themes of memory, mythology, identity, and the human condition.

She works in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, and mixed media. Notable series of her work include The Trials of Eve, Cannibal Bird Suite, and The Dancers Suite. Her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows across Canada and internationally, and is held in public collections such as the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, and the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem.

A significant contributor to the Vancouver arts scene, Granirer co-founded "Artists in Our Midst" in 1993, the city's first open studio art walk, an initiative designed to foster community engagement with local artists. She is also the author of several books that integrate her art and writing, including the award-winning The Trials of Eve (1989) and her memoir, Light Within the Shadows: A Painter's Memoir (2017). For The Trials of Eve, she received the Alcuin Citation Award.
