Richard Dixon

Richard Dixon has worked as a professional fine artist since 1975, beginning his career in Edmonton, Alberta. With over 40 years of experience, he has exhibited his work globally for more than 35 years across Canada, the United States, Europe, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Between 1976 and 1986, Dixon expanded his involvement in the art world by acquiring ownership of gallery and art publishing companies that operated internationally.

A significant milestone in Dixon's career came in 1987 when his work "The Canadian Spirit Series" was selected as the official gift presentation for the 1988 Olympic Winter Games. This recognition established a global market for his artwork in 67 countries. Dixon maintained his gallery and publishing enterprises until 1996, when he divested ownership to focus exclusively on creating art and developing projects related to the history, culture, mythology, and landscape of western Canada.

For many years, Dixon's primary artistic focus has been creating historical paintings depicting life in Western Canada during the fur trade era, earlier Native occupation, and later settlement years. These works form cohesive series that collectively tell the story of these historical periods. His paintings are found in major corporate, government, museum, and private collections worldwide.

In 2005, Dixon began concentrating on developing as a plein air landscape artist, undertaking painting expeditions to diverse locations including Northern California, the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, and the Oregon coast. These journeys allowed him to experience and capture varying forms of light and landscape, further expanding his artistic range while maintaining his connection to the natural world.
