Eugenia Greinert

Eugenia Greinert was a Polish-Canadian artist. Born in Płock, Poland, she studied painting under Professor Tadeusz Pruszkowski at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw, graduating with honours in 1937. After the Warsaw Uprising during the Second World War, she was imprisoned in Germany. After the war, she immigrated to Canada in 1947.

Her career took her across the country, with periods in Saskatchewan, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Edmonton. She later moved to Ottawa in 1951 before settling permanently in Vancouver in 1954, where she lived until her death. Greinert worked in a variety of media, including watercolour, oil, and acrylic. Her work was primarily figurative and expressionistic, often drawing on her memories of Europe and her experiences as an immigrant. Her subjects included portraits, landscapes, and scenes from daily life, characterized by a bold use of colour and emotional intensity. She was a member of the Manitoba Society of Artists, and her documented activities in Winnipeg include a commission to paint portraits of members of the Manitoba legislature. Her work was exhibited in solo and group shows and is held in private collections.
