Kathryne Koop is a Canadian ceramic artist and potter based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She completed her formal visual arts education at the University of Manitoba School of Art (then Lemoine FitzGerald School of Art), graduating with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1973.
Working primarily in wheel-thrown functional and sculptural stoneware, Koop’s ceramic practice explores vessel forms, multi-layered glaze applications, and gas reduction firing techniques. Based in Winnipeg, she became a member and co-owner of the Stoneware Gallery, one of Canada’s oldest potter-run co-operatives, where she maintained her studio practice for several decades. In 2002, she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal in recognition of her contributions to Canadian craft and visual arts.
Her ceramic works have been acquired for public institutional and governmental collections, including holdings at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the Canada Council Art Bank, and the Manitoba Arts Council collection.
