Kakee Shakee Negeoseak was an Inuit hunter, community leader, and stone carver born in the South Baffin region of Nunavut. He spent his early life residing in seasonal hunting camps across the Cumberland Sound and South Baffin territory, establishing a deep familiar connection to traditional hunting practices, Arctic fauna, and local oral history.
Negeoseak developed his stone sculpture practice in Kinngait (Cape Dorset) during the 1950s and 1960s, coinciding with the establishment of formal art-making initiatives in the settlement. Working primarily in local stone, serpentinite, and ivory, his sculptural compositions focused on native wildlife, including birds, bears, and marine life, alongside depictions of hunters and family units.
Works by Negeoseak have been included in public institutional holdings across Canada, including the permanent collections of the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec. He maintained his ties to the Kinngait region until his death in 1984.
