Gyta Eeseemaillie

Gyta Eeseemaillie (born 1955) is an Inuit printmaker, graphic artist, and sculptor from Panniqtuuq (Pangnirtung), Nunavut. Raised in an artistic family, his father Atunganyak produced drawings and tapestry designs, while his brother Beetanie pursued stone carving.

Beginning in the late 1970s, Eeseemaillie became an active participant in the Pangnirtung Print Shop, contributing both original designs and working as a master printmaker executing works for other community artists. Working across printmaking, stencil, drawing, stone carving, and tapestry design, his visual subject matter focuses on traditional Inuit life, hunting practices, drum dancing, spiritual motifs, and regional Arctic wildlife.

Throughout his career, Eeseemaillie's work has been regularly selected for inclusion in the annual Pangnirtung Print Collections. His prints and sculptures are preserved in public museum collections, including the Canadian Museum of History (formerly the Canadian Museum of Civilization) in Gatineau, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, and the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre in Yellowknife.
