Vladimir Horik

Vladimir Horik (born 1939) is a Canadian landscape painter known for his depictions of the Charlevoix region and rural Quebec. Born in Saint-Ephrem-de-Beauce, Quebec, Horik spent much of his youth in the forests of the region, developing a strong connection to the natural environment. Prior to pursuing art full time, he served nine years in the Canadian Armed Forces and trained as a commando.

Following his military service, Horik pursued formal artistic training in Quebec City. He attended the École des Beaux-Arts de Québec, where he earned a diploma in plastic arts and a teaching certificate. He further expanded his education at Laval University, completing a degree in history.

After settling in Charlevoix, Quebec, Horik committed fully to painting, focusing primarily on the stark lighting, dramatic weather, and mountainous terrain of the Laurentian landscape. Working predominantly in oils, his technique is characterized by dynamic brushwork, vibrant color choices, and bold structural compositions using a palette knife.

Over a career spanning several decades, Horik established himself as a prominent figure in Quebec's landscape painting tradition. His work has been featured in public exhibitions and acquired by municipal, corporate, and public institutional collections across Canada and internationally.
