Thomas Hilton Garside (1906-1980) was born in Dunkinfield, England. He moved with his family to Quebec, Canada in 1914. He began taking night classes with Adam Sheriff Scott at the Art Association of Montreal and gravitated towards landscapes, specifically of the Lorentians and other Quebec landscapes. He became a member of the Royal Canadian Academy in 1945 and participated in many solo and group shows around Canada throughout his career.
