Stephen Andrews

Stephen James Andrews was a Canadian painter, designer, teacher, and writer born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 1922. He studied at the Winnipeg School of Art from 1939 to 1942 under LeMoine FitzGerald before serving in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II, where he painted murals at Canadian naval stations. Following his discharge, Andrews moved to Europe, continuing his studies at the Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts in London, the Académie Julian in Paris, and in Florence and Ravenna.

Throughout his career, Andrews exhibited widely across Paris, London, Montreal, Toronto, Dublin, and Winnipeg. His work is held in public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the collection of HRH Princess Margaret. Andrews died in CÁceres, Spain, in 1995.
